  • Dortmund money troubles

Dortmund had their most profitable year this past season, making over €400 million! However they've spent only €40m, which is not a lot, especially considering they sold Jude Bellingham for €103m, which can rise to €134m In a Ruhr24 article, they report that Patrick Berger says it's estimated Dortmund has only €8-10m to spend on transfers It seems likely another transfer will happen, but sales of Meunier, Hazard, and possibly Ozcan would need to happen first In Jude Bellingham's case his add ons are as followed (per Sport, Football Espana), number of UCL trophies won, LaLiga trophies won all over the next 6 seasons, payments will also be made for every time Madrid qualify for the UCL in the next 6 seasons, it also relates to number of performances, and if he makes the FIFA (not the video game) Team of the Year within the next 6 years, this will give Dortmund up to €31m extra to spend Dortmund also made just over €74m from their second place finish in the Bundesliga, and €10m for their round of 16 exit from the Champions League BILD reports that Dortmund want to spend 60-65% of their transfer fees on transfers, which would be around €74m, but some of the money has gone to last years transfers Image via Simon Hoffman, Bundesliga

  • Dortmund Bochum match preview

Against Köln we saw Dortmund in a double pivot, we also saw a fairly weak performance Assuming the lineup and tactics remain I see the double pivot working well with Karim Bochum against Stuttgart were horrible, and their marking inside their own box was some of the worst I've seen, they conceded 5 times, once from a corner (where Dortmund looked threatening with great balls in by Julian Brandt), twice from crosses into the box, and twice from their defense being wide open Bochum looked weak going forward, however this is a derby match and it's in the Vonovia Ruhrstadjon, a smaller stadium with the supporters very close to the players, we saw last year how one lucky goal can impact the game It seems likely Nico Schlotterbeck will be integrated back into the starting 11 this weekend along with Karim Adeyemi, overall from a tactical standpoint I believe the same goes, with the double pivot it failed against Köln for one sole purpose, the counter-tactics from Steffen Baumgart, who expected and embraced the double pivot, as seen here (excuse the poor graphic), Dortmund were not able to play down the middle positively due to the marking by Köln With Bochum, their marking is not the best, this will open play up significantly and not force balls out to Ryerson and Bensebaini who have no options to play the ball forward Bochum do present the counterattacking threat we saw with Köln at times, with Bochum having an almost identical chance against Stuttgart like this one Köln had However Bochum look even weaker than last year, but a response wouldn't be out of view, but their response would look like a 3-0 loss instead of 5-0 Player to watch: Sebastien Haller Haller is a very threatening presence in the box already, but throw in Bochum's poor marking and it makes him even more dangerous. He could easily get 2 goals this weekend and maybe even pick up an assist Image via Ina Fassbender

  • What to expect from Dortmund this season

Dortmund finished their US tour Wednesday with a 1-1 draw vs Chelsea, Marius Wolf scored the loan Dortmund goal in the 80th minute off of a deflected Samuel Bamba shot Chelsea however in the 89th minute scored with a free header off of a corner, showing the inconsistent marking that was apparent last season Nevertheless Dortmund remain undefeated in their 6 preseason games, winning against Rhynern, Oberhausen, Erfurt, San Diego Loyal, Man United, and tying against Chelsea On August 3rd Dortmund flew out of Chicago, returning home to Dortmund, where they'll play Ajax on August 6th at the Westfalen in their final test game Dortmund Chelsea match takeaways If anyone like me was still skeptical of Bensebaini it sure has passed, he's shown pure defensive class against Antony and Sterling the last 2 games, something our supporters weren't used to seeing the last couple years with Geurreiro We saw Dortmund in a 4-3-3 with a holding midfielder yesterday, but when attacking as usual the defensive midfielder, Salih Ozcan last night, would drop between the 2 center backs while the fullbacks, Ryerson and Bensebaini, would take a wide position around midfield, having Adeyemi and Malen become more like inverted wingers who sometimes found themselves going back out wide What to expect in the Bundesliga Dortmund's first official game comes against Schott Mainz in the Pokal August 12th, with their first Bundesliga game against Köln a week later I would expect a lineup like the one below With this I would expect the same style we usually see, gegenpressing, Sebastien Haller this season is very prepared and knows gegenpressing, it did a huge plus to have him fully fit, with this being our first season seeing him at full fitness, this brings the ability to press more apparent and his hold up play in the midfield even more dangerous Player to Watch There are players you know will make a difference, Haller, Karim, Donny, Nico, Niklas, but one name I think people need to look out for is Ryerson, not everyone is sold on the Norwegian right back, but if you could describe him in 1 word it would be automatic, for the way he is constantly running down the right side and doing the defending work consistently, you also might hear the word machine, and those are both true, he will definitely be a player to keep an eye on Winter transfer strategy Internally it's no secret there are still doubts on the consistency of Bensebaini but those will likely pass, that being said Dortmund are saving money, they want to be in a good position incase something doesn't work out and they're required to make winter signings What they'll do nobody knows but our hopes remain high that they'll win the Meisterschale this season Image via Borussia Dortmund

  • What are the three options Dortmund have this window?

It's no secret that Dortmund supporters are unhappy with the current transfer window, Dortmund has made 2 signings (not counting players coming up from BVB II), spending only €30m after seeing €108.35m worth of players exit the club, and with Jude Bellingham's fee likely to increase to over €130m from add ons they have the money to spend, but how should they spend it? Here are 3 options for the clubs future spending Option A: The statement window This window consists of bringing in Khephren Thuram, Edson Alvarez, and a top class fullback In this window Dortmund would break their record transfer fee twice, spending upwards of €80m on Thuram and Alvarez, while spending around €15-20m on a fullback Dortmund ended their pursuit of Edson Alvarez when they started having doubts about his price and Edin Terzic ultimately said no for that price, West Ham joined the race and Ajax immediately raised the price, but with West Ham exploring other options Alvarez's price could fall back down to around €30m Thuram is another player who's price continues to fall, when first reported Dortmund were interested in April, Nice wanted €60m, now they want just €50m, and since Liverpool are also looking elsewhere for midfield options, his price could continue to fall, leading him to Dortmund possibly Option B: The star player This option consists of Dortmund being content with buying a star midfielder and fullback but that being it Mohammed Kudus and Manu Kone are certainly names who you remember hearing about as they were the original Bellingham replacement candidates, and to be fair they still seem to be likely candidates as both are still available and for €35m Option C: The content with what we have window It seems Edin Terzic is happy with the team he has, and I get why considering they scored 3.1 goals a game in the second half of the season, but we still can improve, as always This option consists of getting another midfielder for less than €20m and a fullback for around €10m, for example Sabitzer This seems like the most likely option, but also the least liked option amongst fans So what option would you take? • Sabitzer Rumor Round-Up

It was earlier this morning when BILD reported that Dortmund had their eye on Marcel Sabitzer as a potential midfield signing, reporting he could fit the Dortmund profile as a strong, technically skilled, experienced footballer all only for €15m, an affordable price they'd be willing to pay However, RN reports Dortmund were looking for a more developable player rather than a 29 year old Sabitzer to Dortmund is just a rumor, and many more rumors will come Image via Manchester Evening News

  • Dortmund 7 - 0 Rhynern Game Recap

Dortmund found themselves victorious in their first game of the preseason winning 7-0, with a slow goal scoring start the deadlock was broken by former captain (it hurts saying that) Marco Reus off of a stunning goal which was assisted by Thorgan Hazard in the 12th minute Following that who else but Marco Reus would score the second with another world class goal from outside the box which dipped into the back of the net in the 24th minute, the half ended with Reus laying it off to Rijkhoff in the box who finished with no problems making it 3-0 in the 43rd The second half saw many subs but none more notable than the return of Mateu Morey who after a devastating injury in the Holstein Kiel Pokal game in 2021 is back, he had an average performance in his first game back, but among the subs was Paul Besong who grabbed himself a brace and an assist at the end of the game when regaining possession and passing it through to Prince Aning to get the final goal of an incredible in the 87th minute Duranville also had a very good performance securing an assist and looking very explosive and agile throughout the game Goal recap 12' Marco Reus A: Thorgan Hazard 24' Marco Reus A: N/A 43' Julian Rijkhoff A: Marco Reus 53' Paul Besong A: N/A 67' Paul Besong A: Julien Duranville 84' Falko Michel A: Goktan Gurpuz (corner, flick on) 87' Prince Aning A: Paul Besong Dortmund's next game is on July 19th at 6 PM GER, 12 PM EST Image via BVB

  • Dortmund transfer confusion?

From the outside looking in it seems as if Dortmund are eager to do business in the summer window but as their 3 deals came down the home stretch only 1 of them were to be completed and that was Felix Nmecha. Dortmund pulled out of the Edson Alvarez and Ivan Fresneda deals, in both they were said to not be happy with the pricing. Fresneda is now on the move to Barcelona after Dortmund and Ivan were unable to reach a new agreement on personal terms following Fresneda's new agent hiring. Previously mentioned in this tweet before the news broke https://twitter.com/thebvbcentral/status/1674117281901584384?s=46&t=gtOCAC2eY2jRk4C7Ux0gbA So now the question is, where will the money be spent, well In another tweet I gave the assumed answer https://twitter.com/thebvbcentral/status/1674117285001277441?s=46&t=gtOCAC2eY2jRk4C7Ux0gbA The only player Dortmund have signed so far is Felix Nmecha who is a very talented youngster who has to settle some off the field problems first but will no doubt shape into a great player. Specifically the board hope he can eventually be the Jude Bellingham replacement, meaning the so called Mr X could in fact not be a youngster like once rumored. Dortmund went after Gundogan, offering him a contract, with that intent, any class midfielder will sign even if they aren't in their twenties anymore. What Dortmund will do with Mr X only they know, but now at the end of this article I will drop midfielders they have been linked with who could possibly be Mr X, also my favorites to be Mr X. • Edson Alvarez Transfer Collapsing?

Since the summer transfer rumors started there have been hundreds of rumors, yet only one rumor seems to be sticking and that's Edson Alvarez to Dortmund. From tens of sources and so many reports it's hard to find out what's really happening but it seems according to BILD that Dortmund is not amused by how long the Edson Alvarez transfer is taking. Bild take it a step farther by stating internally Dortmund are questioning the price of Edson Alvarez, Ajax want over €45m as well as add ons for Alvarez where as Dortmund wish only to pay €33m and add ons for Alvarez. A reported €70m could be the total fee including wages on a 3 year contract for Alvarez which Dortmund are not wanting to pay, and with Emre Can extending it begs the question, why bring in Edson Alvarez and is he really €60m better than Emre Can? The price may not even be settled at this ridiculous price as West Ham could yet again join the bidding, it was reported they were priced out of the Edson Alvarez sweepstakes a week ago when it was assumed the deal was soon to be completed, but now that Arsenal will be receiving over €105m for Declan Rice it may open the door for them to rejoin the chase for Alvarez. At the end of the day, us fans are left wondering the same thing as the Dortmund board, what will happen next and is Alvarez worth all the money with the other gaps in the team? • Borussia Dortmund overcome Union Berlin 2-1

Today Dortmund played out a 2-1 victory with goals coming from Donny Malen 28' and Youssoufa Moukoko 79' with an assist coming from Rapha Guerreiro putting him first in the BuLi with 11 assists on the campaign. Image via BVB The game started poorly as Dortmund and specifically the defense failed to escape the Union press multiple times throughout the starting 10 minutes. The team did start to get into the flow of the game, escaping multiple situations with the high press. After that Union went back to the style of football they're used to, dropping back inviting the attack and breaking with pace on the counter. That plan failed as a ball across the box was put in by Donny Malen who was able to get there in time. Kevin Berhens grabbed Union the equalizer in the 61' off of poor ariel prowess from Niklas Sule and poor tracking from Sule as well, but while attacking towards the famous Yellow Wall in the sudtribune Youssoufa Moukoko got his goal in his 50th appearance, running over to the bench to celebrate the eventual winner. Image via RN Match Ratings Starters Gregor Kobel - 8/10, not tested much but had some good saves and played out of the back decently well Julian Ryerson - 8/10, played very well with his fast runs down the wings and physicality and providing crosses to Sebastian Haller Niklas Sule - 6.5/10, at fault for the lone Union goal and did make some defensive errors but was sound on the ball and crucial in playing out of the back, but still not his best Mats Hummels - 7.5/10, good defensively and like his partner in the back was also crucial in playing out of the back and settling play down, he also surprisingly wasn't shy bursting into the midfield on rare occasions Rapha Guerreiro - 9/10, yet another assist for the Portuguese magician who did slide back to the left back position with Marius Wolf out due to illness, he made a crucial tackle in the box with a brilliant piece of defending as well as being brilliant on ball Jude Bellingham - 9/10, it looks like the little rest he got midweek helped as he looked as good as usual in the midfield, pressing brilliantly, defending well, and pulling the strings in the midfield with many good passes Emre Can - 10/10, a rare ten out of ten rating but it cannot be understated how important he is defensively winning multiple key challenges, and being sound on the ball, he may not have flashy passes or look like Ronaldinho or Jude on the ball but he gets the job done with his simple passing Julian Brandt - 7/10, still not back to his pre injury form but you could see he was slowly starting to get it back, however he did miscontrol two clear chances at goal causing possesion to be lost in key spots but passed well and was key in creating chances Donny Malen - 8.5/10, the scorer of the first goal and creator of many chances he looks like he's found form of late, which is great as we enter a key stretch towards the end of the season Karim Adeyemi - 8/10, was quiet at certain points of the game but I missed his pace and runs in behind the defense, he was certainly key in multiple chances and troubled the Union defense always Sébastien Haller - 7.5/10, no goal for Haller today but his hold up play is so important in the game and his ability to get back defensively off of crosses to assist in clearing the ball is also something that isn't talked about often, but he certainly plays his role Edin Terzic - 9/10, adjusting to completely different play styles of teams isn't easy, going from a high pressing team like Leipzig to playing against an Union team with a low defensive line and direct play, but he handled it well, he made the correct changes and played Brandt in the position of a ten for the first time in a while, his subs also made an impact obviously with one scoring the winner, the one being Moukoko of course Subs Jamie Bynoe Gittens - 7/10, played well for the time he was in but not a lot to go off of Youssoufa Moukoko - 9/10, for the time he was in the game he was a constant threat, with good one twos and dribbling as well as pace and more he had a good stretch in this game and obviously he scored the winner off of great effort Marco Reus - 7/10, played decent but didn't get a lot of minutes to really impress but he always manages to play well Salih Ozcan - 7/10, played his part which was to be a defensive presence and string some passes together in his limited minutes Dortmund play their next game away to Stuttgart on Saturday, while title rivals Bayern play host to Hoffenheim

  • Dortmund looking at Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior

Dortmund are looking for defensive reinforcements as they've already signed Julian Ryerson, who is a brilliant wingback that is multidimensional and can play on both sides. Jakub Kiwior is a very solid defender, he's 6'2" and a physical presence in the defense, he's been very good for Spezia this season and has attracted interest from multiple clubs, mainly in the Serie A. Kiwior is only 22 years old and a Polish international which will only boost his price as Dortmund have made a bid for €22m to sign the player, but the bid was rejected. It does seem like Dortmund may make another offer. Image via Goal.pl

  • Moukoko close to agreeing contract with Dortmund

There has been an agreement in principle between Borussia Dortmund and Youssoufa Moukoko today. The negotiations have gone extremely well and both sides are happy. It always seemed like Moukoko wanted to extend but they had to work the money out first. Moukoko turned down interest from Barcelona, Chelsea, Newcastle, etc. Image via BVB Buzz

  • Borussia Dortmund contract update

Dortmund have 5 starting players who they have to discuss whether they will attempt to extend their contracts. Marco Reus Reus' camp is not happy with the amount of money Youssoufa Moukoko is being offered as they feel the Dortmund captain is the one blamed for the teams disappointments. A contract could be signed as Marco loves Dortmund, but a move elsewhere has not been ruled out and doesn't even seem unlikely. Jude Bellingham Dortmund has stated that if Jude were decide to stay he would become a top earner in the club, Jude has still not made a decision on his future but there's still a solid possibility the top midfielder stays at the club. Youssoufa Moukoko There are many mixed reports coming out about Moukoko's future but it seems that if he leaves he will go with the highest paying option. Newcastle has made a large bid to make him earn 150k a week with a 30m signing bonus he would most likely choose this offer over ones from Chelsea, Barcelona, etc. However the players wishes are to stay at Dortmund and could reject the Newcastle money to earn less to stay at Dortmund. Mats Hummels The centerback this season is aging like fine wine as he has had a brilliant season so far, he's established himself as one of the best Bundesliga defenders again, Dortmund sees this and acknowledges it as it seems like he will have his contract extended for atleast another year. Raphael Guerreiro Dortmund does not seem like they will extend the Portuguese international's contract and so the question really is what club will he be playing at next year? He is a top left back in the world who would undoubtedly get offers from a multitude of offers. Image via Daily Mail, and Reuters ©️
