BVB's Transfer Window - Potential Options

With the transfer window opening yesterday and BVB's first test match being played on July 18 there's hope for an official announcement before then. However, with little info getting out under Ole Book all you can do right now is speculate, here's a list of players who I believe could be a good fit for Dortmund over the next couple seasons. This list doesn't include any defensive midfielders, the candidates for the 6 should have their own article.

Mario Stroeykens (21) - RSC Anderlecht - AM

Stroeykens is a creative attacking midfielder, averaging 6.53 passes into the final 3rd per 90. He was injured for parts of last season. According to some Dutch reports, Ajax submitted a bid that Anderlecht rejected. The reality is Anderlecht aren't keen to sell him, however should an appropriate bid come in they would re-evaluate. His clever movement without the ball adds another element to his play. He isn't known as a scorer, as that's part of his game that needs improvement, however his creativity is the main intrigue with him.

Sondre Ørjasæter (22) - FC Twente - LW

Ørjasæter is an interesting winger, playing on the left. For FC Twente he had 160 progressive runs throughout the season. Similar to Stroeykens, he isn't known as a scorer, he prefers to cut inside and create rather than cut inside and shoot. Despite being a creator, he doesn't send in crosses all too much. For BVB, the fit in Niko Kovac's wingerless system obviously may not be great, but ideally in the long term, a system with wingers will return, and he could then be an interesting option.

Kyriani Sabbe (21) - Club Burgge - RB

Very exciting and well recognized right back for Club Brugge, who are terrific at producing these amazing talents. He's comfortable with the ball, progresses it well, and is comfortable going forward as well. He would be a great long term solution at right back, especially considering BVB currently have one right back. He's considered one of the brightest futures on this list, and one of Belgium's most exciting talents.

Luciano Valente (22) - Feyenoord - CM

Another attacking minded midfielder with 2 goals and 7 assists this season. 112 successful dribbles over his past 2 seasons, creating 1.66 chances per 90. Impacts the game operating in the half spaces, especially on the left. He originally was a 10, however drops deeper now, but some traits are still present. He has an impressive ability to carry the ball forward, but also shows good quality winning the ball back. Could become an even more interesting option should Felix Nmecha leave.

Mika Godts (21 until June 7) - Ajax - LW

The most expensive option here for BVB. He's a winger, so he doesn't necessarily fit Kovac's system, but in an ideal world wingers would be incorporated in Dortmund's plans. Unlike Ørjasæter, Godts is more of a scorer. In the Eredivisie he recorded 17 goals and 12 assists this past season. He would be an excellent statement type of signing for BVB. A rapid winger, recording a the 5th fastest top speed in the Champions League last season at 34.44 km/h. He's an extremely productive winger and primarily cuts inside to create opportunities for himself. One caution would be his outperforming of his xG. As it is with most players outperforming their xG numbers, there are questions of sustainability, however, he still creates a good amount of chances for himself.

Jacques Ekomie (22) - Angers SCO - LB

A physically strong left back. Has room to grow on the ball, but one to monitor for BVB. Really solid defensively, difficult to get by him 1v1. Would be a nice compliment next to a more attacking right back in a back 4. However, there has been a lot of talk around a move to Besiktas. Not someone I would consider a BVB quality player yet, but someone to keep an eye on, should he improve on the ball he could become a very intriguing player for future windows.
